NP® Liquid Glass Technology

One ultra-thin layer. Engineered for every surface.

NP® Liquid Glass is a mineral SiO₂ matrix that bonds with organic and inorganic surfaces and forms a permanent, transparent protective layer. It repels water, dirt and microorganisms without changing how a material looks, feels or breathes. One core technology, adapted into individual product lines for stone, textiles, wood, glass, plastics and metals.

The principle

Functional protection at the nanoscale.

Our multi-award-winning NP® product portfolio forms an ultra-thin protective layer on both organic and inorganic surfaces. The basis is a natural mineral: silicon dioxide, the main component of quartz and glass. Applied as a liquid, the matrix aligns with the surface structure and cures into a flexible, glass-like film that is five hundred times thinner than a human hair.

This barrier layer cannot be perceived with bare senses. It bonds with the substrate and provides superphobic properties: dirt, water and pathogens cannot adhere. Because the layer is open to water vapour, materials keep breathing — a decisive difference to conventional sealers and coatings. The same technology principle is adapted to different substrate classes and industry requirements.

The process

From liquid to glass in three steps.

Simple to apply, permanent in effect. The process is the same across all NP® product lines — only the carrier, concentration and additives are tuned to the material.

  1. 01

    Apply

The liquid, alcohol- or water-based NP® product is applied thinly by wiping, spraying or dipping — on site or in an industrial process. No primer, no heat, no special equipment.

  2. 02

    Bond

As the carrier evaporates, the SiO₂ molecules arrange themselves along the surface structure and form a flexible, glass-like network that anchors to the substrate. The layer is typically fully cured within hours.

  3. 03

    Protect

The surface is now superphobic: water, oil, dirt and microorganisms cannot adhere. Cleaning needs only water, maintenance intervals stretch, and the material keeps its original look and feel for years.

Two levels of function

Passive effect. Active functionalization.

The purpose-oriented adaptation of our basic matrix results in individual product lines that meet the needs of a wide variety of industries.

Base matrix

Passive effect

The passive effect of our alcohol- or water-based technology is already highly effective against the adhesion of dirt and microorganisms and prevents the entering of water, soil and other substances.

  • Water-, oil- and dirt-repellent
  • Reduced adhesion of microorganisms
  • Protection against moisture, frost and salts
  • Easy-to-clean with water only
Individual solutions

Active functionalization

In addition, we can specifically supplement the product matrix with active ingredients in order to individually adapt their functionality to new areas of application.

  • Antimicrobial and hygiene functions
  • UV, corrosion and anti-graffiti protection
  • Food-safe and medical-grade variants
  • Tailored to the substrate and the industry
Quality, safety & compliance

Tested. Certified. Awarded.

Nanopool develops and manufactures in accordance with international quality and safety standards. The underlying SiO₂ matrix possesses all necessary certifications to prove its harmlessness, and the performance of each product line is verified by independent institutes and material-specific test standards.

Sustainable by design

Protection that lasts is protection that saves.

Our developments are always geared towards long-term benefits: saving water and environmentally harmful cleaning agents, avoiding plastic and unhealthy pesticides, breaking infection chains. A surface that stays clean longer needs fewer cleaning cycles, less chemistry and fewer replacements.

Sustainability

Our protective barriers offer long-term protection that outlasts conventional applications many times over. Protection that lasts saves resources and reduces waste.

Security

The protection of people and applications has been our focus during many years of interdisciplinary research. The effectiveness of our basic matrix has been confirmed in numerous practical tests and studies.

Environmental protection

We use harmless ingredients and processes. Our basic matrix is based on physical laws and a natural mineral that unfolds its function in harmony with the environment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

The most common questions about the NP® Liquid Glass technology. Material-specific questions are answered on the individual solution pages.

The basis is silicon dioxide (SiO₂), a natural mineral and the main component of quartz and glass, carried in water or alcohol. The cured layer is a flexible, glass-like network around 100 nanometres thin.

No. The layer is invisible and cannot be felt. Colour, gloss, texture and — importantly — the breathability of the material are preserved.

The layer bonds with the surface and is not washed off. Depending on material and mechanical stress, protection lasts for years; on heavily used surfaces it can be refreshed simply by re-applying.

Yes. The matrix is proven bio-compatible, food-safe variants are available, and products comply with REACH and ZDHC requirements. No PFAS, no heavy metals, no microplastics.

Organic and inorganic surfaces alike: stone and mineral surfaces, textiles, wood, glass, plastics and metals — each with a dedicated product line. Further substrates such as paper, seeds or solar glass are available on request.
