Nanopool at the Pulp In Action Bootcamp – Innovation Hand in Hand with the Cosmetics Industry
In April 2025, an exclusive network of the world’s leading cosmetics companies, pioneering technology providers, and committed organizations gathered for the 8th Bootcamp of the Pulp In Action consortium – an international flagship project for collaborative material innovation and sustainable fiber-based packaging solutions.
For Nanopool, taking part in this consortium is far more than an industry get-together – it is the expression of a living innovation partnership. As the developer of the patented liquid glass technology SiOPack®, we are proud to be part of this high-caliber network, where forward-looking ideas are not merely discussed but translated directly into concrete product developments.
Innovation Begins in Dialogue
The personal exchange on site – represented by our Managing Partner Sascha Schwindt – was decisive: in direct dialogue with brand representatives, developers, and material experts, we were able not only to present our technological capabilities but also to define new fields of application in concrete terms.
A current example: our latest development for transparent Glassine paper makes it possible to eliminate plastic windows in cosmetics packaging – without sacrificing product visibility. A solution that opens up new perspectives not only in the beauty sector but is already finding its first applications in the food industry as well: for instance, in bread roll bags with transparent zones that provide visibility, minimize the risk of theft, and simplify the checkout process.
A Strong Alliance for Sustainable Solutions
The Pulp In Action consortium pursues a clear goal: to actively shape the transformation toward environmentally friendly, fiber-based packaging solutions in the cosmetics industry – not someday, but now.
The focus is on functional requirements such as:
- Water repellency
- Barriers against water vapor, liquids, and oxygen
- Recyclability and compostability
During the Bootcamp, 12 global cosmetics brands came together with 16 technology-driven partner companies – in more than 30 workshops, material tests, and strategy sessions. This intensive, hands-on collaboration forms the foundation for genuine innovations that decisively shorten the path from idea to market readiness.
Our Contribution: Functionality Meets Sustainability
With our SiOPack® technology, we deliver functional barriers for fiber-based packaging – without compromising recyclability. The ultra-thin, silicon dioxide-based coatings are food-safe, biocompatible, and offer water- and oil-repellent properties.
A central topic in the discussions with potential partners was the added value of our solutions in the area of abrasion resistance and surface protection, especially for molded fiber packaging – a field in which we can achieve a great deal together with the industry.
Looking Ahead:
The consortium’s declared goal is to bring market-ready concepts and the first industrial applications on their way by the end of 2025. Nanopool will help shape this path with full conviction – with high tech “made in Germany”, extensive know-how, and the firm determination to take sustainable packaging solutions to the next level.
