Nanopool Honoured with International Environmental Award in London

Hülzweiler/London. A great honour for Nanopool GmbH from Hülzweiler: the Saarland-based family business, founded in 2001, has been honoured with the international environmental award „Green Apple Award 2008“ for a novel process to enhance crop plants. The award, which is supported by the British government, was presented today at the House of Commons in London.

It is the third international award of this kind for Nanopool within a year. Managing Director Sascha Schwindt sees it as renewed confirmation of the pioneering work done so far in the forward-looking field of nanotechnology: „The award is at the same time an obligation to consistently continue along our path, which conserves the environment and resources.“

Nanopool was recognised for its research into significantly accelerating the germination of grain and tomatoes using an ultra-thin protective layer. The non-toxic substance, which is used in ketchup and medicines among other things, keeps mould, bacteria and insects away from the seed and could fundamentally simplify food production. „It is to be expected that our process will make it possible to achieve yield increases and prevent crop losses – and without environmentally harmful substances,“ says Schwindt. 750 companies from all over the world were nominated for the „Green Apple Award“.

Professor Maximilian Gege, chairman of the German Federal Working Group for Environmentally Conscious Management (B.A.U.M.), sees the „internationally outstanding award“ as confirmation of the „capability and innovative strength of medium-sized enterprises“. Gege: „Here, Nanopool demonstrates in impressive fashion how very concrete, practical environmental and health protection is possible with innovative products.“
